In 1986, George graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney and worked as a small animal clinician in private practice. He enrolled in a residency training programme in veterinary pathology within the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Sydney and was awarded the Diploma in Veterinary Pathology in 1989.

During this period and the following couple of years, George was also a part-time teacher of veterinary anatomical & clinical pathology to veterinary nurses at Bankstown College of Technical and Further Education and worked as a small animal clinician in private practice.

From 1991-1995, he was the registrar in veterinary pathology and staff veterinary pathologist within the Department of Animal Health, Rural Veterinary Centre Teaching Hospital at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Veterinary Science. This position involved supervising and servicing the multi-species teaching hospital’s pathology requirements.

In 1993, he was awarded a MACVSc (pathology), followed by his FANZCVS (Clinical Pathology) in 1995.

In 1996, he obtained registration as a specialist veterinary pathologist in New South Wales and also obtained registration as a specialist veterinary pathologist in the United Kingdom from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. In 1998 he also became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists.

Between 1998 and 2005, George worked in private and government laboratories and continued as a part-time small animal clinician.

In January 2006, George joined Vetnostics as a full time specialist veterinary pathologist. He has authored many publications in refereed journals/books as well as being an examiner in Veterinary Clinical Pathology for the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.

Since 2017 George has also been an adjunct Associate Professor of the School of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney
